Our Itinerary

Some people have been asking, so here's our rough itinerary if you're interested:

Pandas at Safari Park
January 9: fly to Oakland in the afternoon, meet up with my sister Morgan (she's coming with us)
January 10: fly from San Francisco to Beijing on a 12 1/2 hour direct flight on United
January 11: arrive in Beijing in the late afternoon
January 12: tour Great Wall at MuTianYu and go on a rickshaw hutong tour
January 13: tour Temple of Heaven and Summer Palace
January 14: tour Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City
January 15: fly to Nanchang, Jiangxi where Johanna will be brought to our hotel at about 4:30pm
January 16: paperwork and appointment to make the adoption official
January 17: free day or orphanage visit
January 18: free day or orphanage visit
January 19: free day or orphanage visit
January 20: train to Guangzhou
January 21: Johanna's medical appointment
January 22: free day
January 23: appointment to read tuberculosis test
January 24: 10am consulate appointment
January 25: pick up visa
January 26: train to Hong Kong
January 27: fly to San Francisco and then Denver, arriving mid-afternoon to celebrate my birthday
January 28: Chinese New Year

Tengwang Pavilion
On our free days and short appointment days in Nanchang and Guangzhou, there are plenty of touring and shopping opportunities. It will just depend on how Johanna is doing and what she needs. We hope to visit places like the Tengwang Pavilion and the Star of Nanchang in Jiangxi. We also hope to tour Shamian Island and Safari Park (must see the pandas!) in Guangzhou. And we'll see what we can squeeze in with one afternoon in Hong Kong! Anyway, back to packing...
